Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)

Upon receipt of an appeal received from a petitioner, the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) hears and decides upon challenged administrative decisions made by the Township's Zoning Administrator, requests for interpretation of the Zoning Ordinance or the Zoning Map, requests for dimensional and other non-use variances*, and any other matter that falls under the purview of the Zoning Ordinance.

* A variance is the process by which an applicant can request deviation from the set of rules established in the Zoning Ordinance based on a hardship.

Section 14.02 of the Township's Zoning Ordinance establishes the 5 member ZBA for 3-year terms.

Members are appointed by the Board of Trustees as follows: 

  • 1 member representing: Planning Commission; 
  • 1 member representing: Township Board of Trustees MAY be appointed; and
  • 3 members representing: Township voters who:
     a reside outside of incorporated cities and villages; and
     a represent the population distribution and various interests present in the Township.

Regular meetings of the ZBA are scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on the 1st Wednesday of each month in the Township Hall Meeting Room.  Additional meetings may be scheduled on an as needed basis.
